Ahh, the 1950's. A decade often viewed with a great nostalgia. A decade when most people had "never had it so good".

Obviously not everything in the the 1950's was perfect and global tensions between new world superpowers posed a lingering concern.

However, in contrast to previous decades which had seen war and economic depression, the 1950's was mostly a decade of hope and optimism, where soldiers returned home from war to settle down into family life, the economy boomed and culture flourished.

This website hopes to capture the charactar of the fabulous fifties and provide a snapshot as to what life was like during these fascinating times!

When it comes to our modern history, you hear a lot about the popular culture of decades like the 1980's and the 1960's, but I found there to be a lack of material related to the 1950's- a decade which has always fascinated me.

So I decided to create a website all about the 1950's. I named this website "Retro Utopia" in reference to the nostalgia that often is felt in memory of the 1950's. In the dictionary, "Utopia" can be defined as an "ideal state or place", except in this case this applies to a period in time.
